Road Trip to Mexico Fall 2019 - Chapter Two

After Yellowstone and Grand Teton we stopped at Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area to camp for the night.  From there we went to Dinosaur National Monument. It's a bit out of the way and not easy to get to, but we have been there before and liked it so we decided to return and were glad we did. The weather was nice and there were no crowds.  A bonus was the amazing petroglyphs on the way: From there we went to Colorado National Monument: Nice Campgrounds, beautiful views and Big Horn Sheep! From there we headed toward Highway 145 and up over Lizard Pass (10,222') and then camped on the Dolores River. Next Stop Mesa Verde: We were here a few years ago, but were tent camping then and we got rained out. This time we had great weather.  The ruins are spectacular and it's well worth it to take a ranger guided tour. My favorite, however, is the Wetherill Mesa.  The Park Point Fire Loo

Road Trip to Mexico Fall 2019 - Chapter One

We left Bainbridge Island on September 3rd, spent the night in Auburn with the kids, and then headed southeast. Arrival in San Carlos, Sonora, MX is scheduled for October 13th. Our first stop was a quick visit with our cruising buddy Gerry who we haven't seen since we waved goodbye when he headed to the South Pacific in 2014. He built a house on an airstrip just south of Mount Rainier. So fun to re-connect! We spent the night at the Hause Creek CG on White Pass.....right on the river. The next day we stopped and explored Walla Walla, WA and then spent the night in the cute town of Dayton. Driving through the Palouse Country is beautiful: .....and sometimes humorous:) ......heading to the Wallowa Mountain area of Northeastern Oregon where we were having our second annual rendezvous with my two good college/high school friends at Wallowa State Park. We had some nasty weather getting there: That is hail you can hear in the video:
