La Paz

We arrived at Marina Palmira in La Paz on 11/29 with time to get Loomba-Loomba cleaned up,
do laundry and buy a little food before Drew arrived on 12/2.
Drew flew into Cabo, rented a car and drove up to La Paz.
The weather was not great while he was here - more "northers" - in fact blowing 25-30 right in the bay. All the slips at all the marinas were full and no one was going anywhere.

Since we didn't want to go out to the islands we explored La Paz,

La Fuente Ice Cream Shop on the Malecon (As featured in the Seattle P.I.)
Riding our bikes from Marina Palmira to El Centro
Catedral de Nuestra Senora de La Paz
hit the big supermarkets (there are many) to re-provision and Home Depot for some boat supplies,
Lots of good produce to choose from at Soriana's Hiper.
The wind blew Santa over!
we hung out around the boat and marina,

Drew had a hard time not taking this kitty home.
Sunset view from the cockpit.
Loomba-Loomba's Christmas decorations.
Some of the La Paz decorations.

and did some road trips to the surrounding areas.
Los Cerritos:
Los Cerritos Beach (on the Pacific)
Los Cerritos Surf Colony
The road back to the highway from Los Cerritos.

Even on the highway you have to be on the lookout for livestock.

Todos Santos:

An interesting mural in the Cultural Center..........
..............and a creche.
Also in Todos Santos: Hotel California (which they claim was the subject of the Eagles song).

From Todos Santos we went to Triunfo which is one of several mining towns
which no longer have working mines.

Then to Los Muertos which is now called Los Suenos.
We stopped in Muertos last year on Loomba-Loomba and it was interesting to see it by land.
It's an amazing place. Just like last year there were no guests, but lots of employees.

The entrance off the highway had a gate with a guard who radioed ahead and after driving a few miles down this road we   were greeted by another employee in a golf cart and were told to follow her to where we could park. We than got in the golf cart and she drove us through another huge wooden gate and down the hill to the resort restaurant.
It is an amazing place on a beautiful bay.
The restaurant was built around the owner's
electric train collection which is  unbelievable.
Not only do they have an amazing collection of art and artifacts,
they also have the biggest pair of binoculars I have ever seen.
The day Drew left we explored a little of Cabo and San Jose del Cabo.
We caught the bus back to La Paz and he flew back to L.A.
Town square San Jose del Cabo.
We are leaving La Paz tomorrow morning (12/10) and making a couple of stops on the East Cape before heading across to the mainland. We are planning on being in La Cruz for Christmas.
Thanks for your photos, Drew!

Mexico Ferry Travel: Getting from Guaymas to Baja and Back

Since our car was in Puerto Escondido in Baja and we and Loomba-Loomba were in San Carlos on the mainland, we decided to make an adventure out of getting the car over to the mainland and do a Copper Canyon trip on the way back to Guaymas. This involved two different ferry trips, a bus, lots of driving, and a train. Ferry travel is not cheap or easy in Mexico.  We arrived at the 8PM ferry  (Guaymas – Santa Rosalia) on Saturday May 27 th at 6PM, as required.  There had been some pretty strong northerlies for a few days and the ferry isn’t very big so we asked if it was definitely going to sail. They said yes so our friend, Ray, who had given us a ride from San Carlos, left.  At 7:45 they decided the weather was too bad to go – next ferry would be Monday (maybe). We took a taxi back to the boat and decided to wait until Tuesday the 29 th . This time we had Ray ( who speaks fluent Spanish) call and make a reservation in a cabin for us for Tuesday. ...

Two Fall Road Trips 2023

The first trip was doing the Selkirk Loop. We headed first to eastern Washington, then northern Idaho, then British Columbia. We highly recommend. Crossing the Columbia                                                                                                    Priest Lake, Idaho                                                                                                   The FREE ferry across Kootenay Lake We headed to Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park. It was beautiful, nice hikes, good...

North to Vancouver Island..........

........this time on our van aboard the Coho Ferry to Victoria. It was a really fun week visiting old cruising friends and for Jim to see old haunts from his time living in Victoria (many years ago). The Coho ferry leaves Port Angeles on the Olympic Peninsula and arrives in downtown Victoria in one and a half hours: We drove up the west side of Vancouver Island then cut across to a wonderful Provincial C ampground on Gordon Bay on a beautiful lake. The Provincial Campgrounds are big and very well maintained. From Gordon Bay Campground we headed to Nanaimo to hook up with Bob and Gisele Coffey (s/v Relax) where we spent the night. We did a lot of catching up, took a couple of walks around the ponds surrounding their neighborhood and then headed up to another BIG and Beautiful Provincial Park:Rathtrevor Provincial Park about one hour north of Nanaimo. We spent two nights "buddy vanning". . From there we drove (along with Coffeys) down to Shawnigan Lake to visit Ian and Diane (...
