No Hurricane Damage!

We arrived in San Carlos on Sunday, October 23rd and Loomba-Loomba was moved into the work yard on Monday - dirty, but in good shape. The bilge was dry and it didn't look like there were any leaks. It's now Tuesday evening and Loomba-Loomba has been cleaned up, most of the carload of stuff we brought down has been unloaded and put away, the bottom is half painted (will be finished tomorrow), and the prop/shaft has been cleaned up. Tomorrow we'll finish up everything else that needs to be done before our 7am splash on Thursday. The rest will be done at the dock.

We are hoping we will be on our way in a week or so. There is still LOTS to do.

unloaded the car yet!

There was some damage, but not from Hurricane Newton.

When we took the window covers off we discovered

that one of the big forward facing windows was

cracked. Probably from the boat twisting when

she was put on or taken off the trailer. Bummer!

We had a really fun trip down to San Carlos

visiting family and good friends all along

the way. We drove straight down I-5 from Seattle

to Grants Pass and then took the scenic route over to

Crescent City and Redwood National Park. We

followed Hwy. 1 to San Francisco and then to Santa

Cruz, took a short cut to Oxnard, cut over to Santa

Ana and then to Palm Springs where we stayed for awhile

getting some car repairs done and doing our

provisioning shop.

Mexico Ferry Travel: Getting from Guaymas to Baja and Back

Since our car was in Puerto Escondido in Baja and we and Loomba-Loomba were in San Carlos on the mainland, we decided to make an adventure out of getting the car over to the mainland and do a Copper Canyon trip on the way back to Guaymas. This involved two different ferry trips, a bus, lots of driving, and a train. Ferry travel is not cheap or easy in Mexico. We arrived at the 8PM ferry (Guaymas – Santa Rosalia) on Saturday May 27 th at 6PM, as required. There had been some pretty strong northerlies for a few days and the ferry isn’t very big so we asked if it was definitely going to sail. They said yes so our friend, Ray, who had given us a ride from San Carlos, left. At 7:45 they decided the weather was too bad to go – next ferry would be Monday (maybe). We took a taxi back to the boat and decided to wait until Tuesday the 29 th . This time we had Ray ( who speaks fluent Spanish) call and make a reservation in a cabin for us for Tuesday. ...

LaCruz to Mazatlan

March 4, 2011 Back in La Cruz again. Tom and Claudette and Mike and Kathy Jackson arrived to spend two weeks on Anna. Jim and I have been having fun with the Anna crew and we’ve been getting some maintenance things done on Loomba-Loomba. The Sunday market in the Plaza in La Cruz Breakfast and wifi at YaYa's Cafe Seafood Feast at Enrique's for Tommy and Chrissy's birthday Jim and Chrissy took the bus into Bucerias (in between La Cruz and PV) one day to go to the dentist for a good teeth cleaning and check up (AOK) and to go to the “Mega” Supermarket to re-provision. This alleyway leads to the main market stalls in Bucerias We left La Cruz on Thursday, March 10 th and arrived in Chacala that afternoon. Friday morning we awoke to a Tsunami warning on the SSB net and from a fisherman driving by in his Panga who told us to turn the VHF to Channel 16 to get a message from the Capitan de Puerto.
