Good News and a Road Trip!

Jim’s Oncology/Infusion went well. Kidney function has improved, the AFib episodes have decreased in number and intensity so he MAY not need the heart ablation surgery, and the problems with the stainless kidney stent have decreased considerably so he may not need the kidney stent replaced for several more months. Esham (his oncologist) suspects that these problems stemmed from dealing with Covid. Next appointment/infusion is July 8th. Then August 18th when he will have CT Scans and MRIs along with the infusion. We always look forward to that because every time but one there was improvement!

We have been concentrating on house and garden projects and waiting for some nice weather to head out in the van. Last week we finally did more than an overnight.

We spent the first night at our daughter's. The weather was good enough to have dinner outside! It had been a LONG time since we had seen them in person. We spent the night in the van and headed out early to our next stop to visit my sister in Eugene.

The next morning we headed west. We stopped to visit some cruising friends - Jon and Nancy (Sea Dream) and had a nice visit. They have a great house/property just northwest of Eugene. They just sold their boat, also. It was great to see them.

From there we headed to Florence on the Oregon coast and we snagged a great campsite at Sutton Campground. The weather was cooperating so we did a little hiking. The rhododendrons were blooming EVERYWHERE!

The next day we had reserved a condo in Newport so we headed up the coast, had a walk and lunch at the Roque Brewing Company Restaurant, and then checked into the condo. The weather slowly got worse - we woke up to a quite a squall, but fun to watch from the comfort of our room. The weather improved by late morning so we packed up and headed up to South Bend, WA where we had dinner and spent the night at the Willapa Brewing Company Restaurant (Really good pizza and beer) - a Harvest Host location. We headed home from there. It felt really good to get away, but it was also good to get home:)

Mexico Ferry Travel: Getting from Guaymas to Baja and Back

Since our car was in Puerto Escondido in Baja and we and Loomba-Loomba were in San Carlos on the mainland, we decided to make an adventure out of getting the car over to the mainland and do a Copper Canyon trip on the way back to Guaymas. This involved two different ferry trips, a bus, lots of driving, and a train. Ferry travel is not cheap or easy in Mexico.  We arrived at the 8PM ferry  (Guaymas – Santa Rosalia) on Saturday May 27 th at 6PM, as required.  There had been some pretty strong northerlies for a few days and the ferry isn’t very big so we asked if it was definitely going to sail. They said yes so our friend, Ray, who had given us a ride from San Carlos, left.  At 7:45 they decided the weather was too bad to go – next ferry would be Monday (maybe). We took a taxi back to the boat and decided to wait until Tuesday the 29 th . This time we had Ray ( who speaks fluent Spanish) call and make a reservation in a cabin for us for Tuesday. ...

North to Vancouver Island..........

........this time on our van aboard the Coho Ferry to Victoria. It was a really fun week visiting old cruising friends and for Jim to see old haunts from his time living in Victoria (many years ago). The Coho ferry leaves Port Angeles on the Olympic Peninsula and arrives in downtown Victoria in one and a half hours: We drove up the west side of Vancouver Island then cut across to a wonderful Provincial C ampground on Gordon Bay on a beautiful lake. The Provincial Campgrounds are big and very well maintained. From Gordon Bay Campground we headed to Nanaimo to hook up with Bob and Gisele Coffey (s/v Relax) where we spent the night. We did a lot of catching up, took a couple of walks around the ponds surrounding their neighborhood and then headed up to another BIG and Beautiful Provincial Park:Rathtrevor Provincial Park about one hour north of Nanaimo. We spent two nights "buddy vanning". . From there we drove (along with Coffeys) down to Shawnigan Lake to visit Ian and Diane (...
