We are set to leave the dock at Marina San Carlos tomorrow morning, drop the hook in the bay for a few hours, and then head across to Baja (San Juanico, Isla Coronados, or Puerto Escondido depending on wind direction and sea state).
Hopefully our plan works this time!
While we were here Omar put in a pump and bypass to make it easier
to bleed the engine and he rebuilt the raw water pump and the spare.
The weather did not cooperate for a speedy departure.
It has been cold and windy with 20-30 knot winds blowing through the bay
most afternoons. With only a day or two between wind events
the seas never have a chance to lay down.
We are looking at a good, but short, window to get across the
Sea of Cortez tomorrow so we are going for it.
Here are a few photos of our January stay in San Carlos:
Jim spent almost three hours one morning at the top of the mast.
He installed a new wind instrument. He first had to remove the
old bracket, splice the new cable to the old cable so I could
pull the new cable down the inside of the mast and then
he had to install the new wind instrument...............
and it works!
Needless to say, he took the afternoon off
and was a pretty sore the next day.
Views of Bahia San Carlos during a calm period,
and Marina San Carlos.
New things spotted in the area:
A new hotel is being built despite a water shortage.
(There is water rationing so some neighborhoods
only have water a few days a week)
There is a new Santovalle market near the marina.
These fish pens are being built on the beach, but we
don't know where they are going once they are done.
There are approximately five boats that ended
up on the beach during Hurricane Sergio.
Although we like San Carlos, we are ready to hit the road.
