We left Bainbridge Island on September 3rd, spent the night in Auburn with the kids, and then headed southeast. Arrival in San Carlos, Sonora, MX is scheduled for October 13th.
Our first stop was a quick visit with our cruising buddy Gerry who we haven't seen since we waved goodbye when he headed to the South Pacific in 2014. He built a house on an airstrip just south of Mount Rainier. So fun to re-connect!
The next day we stopped and explored Walla Walla, WA and then spent the night in the cute town of Dayton.

we were having our second annual rendezvous with my two good college/high school friends at Wallowa State Park.
We had some nasty weather getting there:

That is hail you can hear in the video:
The weather did get a little better and we spent a couple of nights camping
in the areas around Joseph and Enterprise (including the Hells Canyon Overlook) before the rest of the group arrived.....
It was great to get together with my good friends.
After three days camping at Wallowa SP
the weather looked pretty good for a visit to Yellowstone so we decided to hustle in that direction to get a few good days there before the weather turned.....which it did (the morning we left for Grand Teton).
We stopped at the National Oregon Trail Interpretive Center
on the way - very well done and worth the time to stop.

Yellowstone:
We both had been to Yellowstone before, but not for many years. Although it is very crowded and there is a lot of driving to do to see everything we were glad
we went. It truly is an amazing and beautiful place. Mountains, rivers, lakes, waterfalls, meadows, forests, wildlife - it's all there.
Even the Lodge is a sight to behold:
Grand Teton:
We had rain, but it was still beautiful.
An awesome little chapel in the valley.
A stop at the National Museum of Wildlife Art:
These "totems" were done by Herb Alpert - remember him? |
